Pendant plus de dix ans François-Paul Journe explore toutes les facettes de l’horlogerie ancienne.
À travers la restauration de pièces d’exception, il explore le cheminement intellectuel et culturel d’horlogers qui ont marqué l’histoire des sciences horlogères. Il sera fasciné par le XVIIIe siècle, qui reste pour lui, l’âge d’or de la mesure du temps. Il admire tout particulièrement certains horlogers qui, avec les moyens et outils de l’époque, ont résolument su offrir de nouveaux horizons à l’histoire de l’horlogerie. Il saura leur rendre hommage en poursuivant leurs recherches et en créant des pièces dont l’authenticité et les innovations techniques respectent l’éthique de ces grands maîtres.
L’exclusif pour un plus large public : Chacune des pièces uniques que François-Paul Journe inventait, était le fruit d’un travail de recherches, qu’il voyait disparaître lorsque le commanditaire prenait possession de sa montre. Il se mit alors à rêver d’une collection de montres offrant les mêmes qualités (confort, innovations et performances) mais pour un plus large public!
En 1994, François-Paul Journe mit sur papier sa vision de l’horlogerie contemporaine et présenta en 1999 sa collection de chronomètres signés F.P.Journe ­Invenit et Fecit-.
Il dut adapter son savoir-faire de façonneur sur mesure au processus d’industrialisation et décortiquer les mouvements qu’il invente, afin que chacun de leurs composants puisse être fabriqué selon ses propres exigences.
Sa démarche intellectuelle créatrice et d’invention reste identique que lorsqu’il était artisan, seule la mise en forme change considérablement, avec de nombreux intervenants.

For over twenty years, the art of watchmaking has been an integral part of his existence. Delicately, his fingers have explored the keepers of time, from the earliest to the most complex.

Through these pieces, he has succeeded in apprehending the intellectual and philosophical path followed by the men of science, the inventors and the master watchmakers who designed them. For François-Paul Journe, the 18th century remain the golden age of watchmaking, and it is an homage to that time, to sign his creations with the latin words "invenit et fecit". But François-Paul Journe is also entirely  in tune with his own times, and has succeeded in elegantly bridging the gap between the watchmaking industry and the sophisticated demands of watchmaking as an art. While his timekeepers are build around a complex, delicate, mechanical core, their design and manufacture ensures maximum accessibility and reliability.
