Inventive and unconventional, Gérald Genta was founded in 1969.
In that exact same spirit, the Gérald Genta collections continue shaking up the traditionally discreet and classic world of Haute Horlogerie.
In 1979 the company received the highly coveted “Poinçon de Genève”, a symbol of excellence and perfection in high-end movements.
In June 2000 the Bulgari Group acquired Gérald Genta S.A. Today, Gérald Genta is the only Haute Horlogerie brand offering exclusively complex movements combined with an avant-garde design. Using innovative materials, coupled with ingenious technology and highly complicated movements, it daily accompanies cosmopolitan and non-conformist watch enthusiasts.
The Manufacture Gérald Genta is located both in Geneva and in the village of Le Sentier, at the heart of the Vallée de Joux, where a team of highly experienced watchmakers and technicians combines skilled craftsmanship with cutting-edge technologies to develop and craft all kinds of complication movements.

The first Pocket Grande Sonnerie with three hammers and perpetual calendar was developed in 1973.

In 1994, to celebrate a quarter century of prestige watchmaking, and after 5 years of research and development, Gérald Genta presented the Grande Sonnerie, the world’s most intricate wristwatch, consisting of over 1,000 highly sophisticated mechanical parts housed within a few cubic centimetres and featuring:

  1. Tourbillon self-winding or manual-winding movement
  2. Automatic or manual rewind of chime
  3. Four-hammer Westminster chime, with Grande and Petite Sonnerie and silence mode
  4. Minute repeater
  5. Double power-reserve display (movement and striking mechanism)
  6. Option of adding a Perpetual Calendar with moon phases or second time zone
  7. Water resistance to 3 Atm.

In 1996, Gérald Genta introduced the Retro and Bi Retro movements, symbols of creativity. For the first time in the history of watchmaking, two movements were combined on a single face: jumping hour and retrograde minutes for the Retro and jumping hour with retrograde minutes and date for the Bi Retro. Since then, the brand has continued to perfect this creation, extending it to each of its collections.
