Cette montre intègre un extraordinaire cadran à secteurs qui se caractérise par des minutes en chiffres arabes et des heures en chiffres romains avec un cadran subsidiaire des secondes et aiguilles des secondes dédoublantes. En activant un bouton sur le pendant l’une des aiguilles s’arrête. Une caractéristique inhabituelle pour cette période et précurseur des actuels mécanismes des chronographes.

Thomas Prest était le chef d’équipe dans l’atelier de John Roger Arnold’s.
Le 20 octobre 1820 il a inscrit le brevet No.4501 pour “Un nouveau mouvement appliqué à une montre pour lui permettre d’être remontée par le pendant sans clé ou remontoir”. Ce brevet a uniquement pu être appliqué à des montres à barillet.

PREST 18K GOLD OPENFACE SPLITTABLE SECONDS WATCH WITH SECTOR TIME INDICATION, SIGNED THOMAS PREST, CHIGWELL, NO.527, STAMPED WITH LONDON DATE LETTER FOR 1840.

This watch incorporates an unusual “sector” dial layout featuring wandering Arabic minutes and Roman hours with a splittable second’s subsidiary dial featuring two hands. By depressing a button in the pendant one hand is stopped. A very unusual feature for this period as essentially it becomes an early form of chronograph or timer.

Thomas Prest was the foreman in John Roger Arnold’s workshops.
On October 20 1820 he registered patent No.4501 for “A new and additional movement applied to a watch to enable it to be wound up by the pendant knob without any detached key or winder” A form of keyless winding mechanism. This patent could only be applied to going barrel watches.
