DualTow

L’année 2009 marque donc un cap dans l’histoire de Christophe Claret SA, un tournant que son propriétaire a voulu symboliser par un garde-temps exclusif produit et diffusé en son nom par les meilleurs détaillants. Baptisé DualTow, il reflète en tout point la philosophie horlogère propre à Christophe Claret. Abritant plusieurs inventions dont une brevetée, ce chronographe mono poussoir planétaire à sonnerie et tourbillon exprime autant l’excellence technique qu’une recherche esthétique absolue. Il porte également en lui toutes les compétences réunies au sein de la société. En effet, du développement du mouvement à l’usinage du pont- cadran en saphir, par exemple, la quasi-totalité des opérations ont été réalisées à l’interne.

Incarnation horlogère de la puissance et de l’énergie, la DualTow se présente comme une machine ultra raffinée à mesurer le temps. Avec son affichage inédit de l’heure et des minutes par courroies, le modèle offre un visage ultra technique et racé. Techniquement, le calibre mécanique à remontage manuel référencé CC20A abrite de multiples innovations et raffinements. Un exemple ? Le CC20A possède un timbre qui résonne chaque fois que le poussoir du chronographe est actionné, une allusion au savoir-faire de la manufacture dans le domaine des montres à sonneries.

2009 is thus a jubilee year in the history of Christophe Claret SA, a milestone that its owner wished to symbolise by releasing an exclusive timepiece produced under the company brand name and distributed by the finest retailers worldwide. The DualTow is a faithful reflection of the watchmaking philosophy inherent to Christophe Claret. Housing several inventions including one patented innovation, this single-pusher planetary-gear chronograph with striking mechanism and tourbillon expresses a combination of technical excellence and sophisticated aesthetics. It also embodies the merging of the wide variety of skills united within the company, since almost all operations involved in making it – from movement development to the machining of the sapphire dial-bridge – have been performed in-house.

Representing a horological embodiment of power and energy, the DualTow is an ultra-refined machine for measuring time. With its original “belt” display of the hours and minutes, the model features an ultra-technical and classically elegant appearance. Technically speaking, the mechanical hand-wound CC20A movement boasts an impressive number of innovations and stylistic refinement. One particularly striking example is a gong that sounds each time the chronograph pusher is activated, in a playful allusion to the expertise of the Manufacture in the field of striking watches.

CHRONOGRAPHE MONO POUSSOIR PLANÉTAIRE À SONNERIE

Directement reliée au mouvement, la roue d’entrée des planétaires (1) est entrainée en continu.
Connecté à elle, un porte-satellite (2) pivote sur l’axe de la roue d’entrée sur lequel se meuvent à leur tour deux satellites (3). Placés sur un axe parallèle à celui de la roue d'entrée, ces derniers l’engrènent avec la roue de sortie (4) située, elle, dans la partie supérieure du porte-satellite. Au sommet, une came (5) surmontée d’une aiguille (6) est fixée sur le même axe que la roue d’entrée, solidaire de la roue de sortie, et permet la remise à zéro du chronographe.
La roue d’entrée transmet son mouvement de deux manières. Lorsque la rotation de l’aiguille est bloquée, elle entraine le porte-satellite qui tourne alors dans le vide. Ce fonctionnement correspond aux positions stop et reset du chronographe. En revanche, quand le chronographe est en position start, le porte-satellite est bloqué et le mouvement de rotation de la roue d'entrée est transmis à l’aiguille.

Directly linked to the movement, the continuously driven planetary-gear entry wheel (1) is connected to a satellite-holder (2) pivoting on the arbor of the entry wheel which bears two satellites (3) rotating in turn. Placed on an axis parallel to the entry wheel, the latter mesh with the exit wheel (4) located in the upper part of the satellite-holder. At the top, a cam (5) surmounted by a hand (6) is fixed to the same arbor as the entry wheel, connected to the exit wheel, and serves to reset the chronograph. The entry wheel transmits its movement in two different ways. When the hand rotation is blocked, it drives the satellite-holder which then spins in the void. This operation corresponds to the chronograph stop and reset positions; whereas when the chronograph is in the start position, the satellite-holder is blocked and the rotating motion of the entry wheel is transmitted to the hand.

Lorsque le chronographe est déclenché, la roue à colonnes (7) avance d’un pas et soulève les marteaux de remise à zéro (8). Puis, les freins de start (9) tombent et bloquent les trois porte-satellites (2). Les aiguilles (6) commencent alors immédiatement à tourner puisque l’énergie est retransmise des roues d’entrée (1) aux roues de sortie (4).
La seconde pression arrête la marche du mécanisme. La roue à colonne avance d'un nouveau pas et soulève les freins de start ce qui libère les porte-satellites. Puis, les freins de stop tombent et bloquent un disque solidaire des aiguilles.
Lors de la troisième pression, la roue à colonnes avance encore d’un pas. Les freins de stop se lèvent et libèrent la roue de sortie. Les marteaux tombent ensuite sur les cames (5) et les font tourner jusqu’à ce que les aiguilles reviennent à zéro.
Le cycle du chronographe est alors terminé et le système paré pour une prochaine mesure.
Christophe Claret a choisi de raffiner encore le calibre par l’ajout d’un mécanisme de sonnerie marquant le déclenchement, l’arrêt et la remise à zéro du chronographe. Référence au savoir-faire de la manufacture en termes de sonneries et de mouvements à musique, il résonne de façon exceptionnelle.

When the chronograph is activated, the column wheel (7) moves one notch forward and raises the reset hammers (8). The start brakes (9) then drop to block the three satellite- holders (2) and the hands (6) begin turning immediately, since the energy is transmitted from the entry wheels (1) to the exit wheels (4).
A second push halts the running of the mechanism. The column wheel moves another notch forward and lifts the start brakes, which releases the satellite-holders. The stop brakes then drop to block a disc connected to the hands.
At the third press, the column wheel moves yet another notch forward and the stop brakes lift to release the exit wheel. The hammers then drop onto the cams (5) and cause them to rotate until the hands return to zero.
The chronograph cycle is thus complete and the system is ready for another measurement.
Building on this successful innovation, Christophe Claret has chosen to further enhance the refinement of this calibre by adding a striking mechanism signalling the chronograph start, stop and reset operations.

AFFICHAGE PAR COURROIES AVEC SYSTÈME DE REMONTAGE INTÉGRÉ

S’inspirant des machines se déplaçant sur des chenilles, Christophe Claret a imaginé un ingénieux mécanisme qui permet un affichage des heures, à gauche, et des minutes, à droite. Placées sur les deux côtés de la montre, deux courroies en caoutchouc spécialement développé pour la manufacture arborent des chiffres au design très technique. Au dessus, une fourche de couleur fixée sur le pont de tourbillon et munie d’une micro pointe créé un cadre symbolique permettant de lire l’heure.

Crantées, ces courroies sont entraînées à l’aide de cylindres placés à chaque extrémité. Pour intensifier l’impression de mouvement, leurs flancs présentent un design directement inspiré des jantes de la Bugatti T35. A l’intérieur, un module de tendeur à vis offre un réglage ultra fin assurant un entraînement optimal. Outre ce mécanisme, la courroie des minutes cache le système de remontage et de mise à l’heure totalement intégré.

Energie

Calibre mécanique à remontage manuel, le CC20A présente une réserve de marche de plus de 50 heures assurée par deux barillets. Positionnées en ligne au centre du mouvement, les rochets de barillet rappellent eux aussi les jantes de la Bugatti T35 avec leurs huit rayon-bâtons emblématiques. Un indicateur visible également au verso signale le solde d’énergie disponible.

Finitions

Comme dans tous les mouvements développés, mis au point et produits par la manufacture, chaque composant du CC20A est travaillé suivant les canons de la haute horlogerie. Confirmant le statut prestigieux de la DualTow, ils sont anglés, étirés, poli-bloqués et mis en couleur dans le plus pur respect de la tradition manufacturière. En fonction des couleurs sélectionnées par le client pour son propre modèle, les composants sont bleuis, éloxés ou encore traités par des procédés de galvanoplastie.

Bien qu’il s’agisse de pièces uniques, la DualTow offre de nombreux visages différents. Pour être en adéquation avec l’air du temps et les nouveaux codes du luxe qui offrent au client la liberté d’inventer sa propre version d’un objet, Christophe Claret propose de personnaliser sa propre DualTow. Belt-type display with integrated winding system

Inspired by caterpillar-track vehicles, Christophe Claret has devised a mechanism enabling an unprecedented display of the hours on the left and the minutes on the right. Placed on either side of the watch, two rubber belts specially developed for the Manufacture feature numerals with a decidedly high-tech design. Above them, a coloured fork fixed to the tourbillon bridge and fitted with a tiny pointer creates a symbolic framework serving to read off the time.

These notched belts are driven by cylinders placed on either end. To intensify the impression of motion, the design of their sides is directly inspired by the wheel rims of the Bugatti T35. Inside, a screw-tightening module enables ultra-precise adjustment ensuring optimally smooth operation. In addition to this mechanism, the minute belt houses a fully integrated winding and time-setting system.

Energy

The mechanical hand-wound Calibre CC20A is endowed with an over 50-hour power reserve supplied by two barrels. Lined up in parallel in the centre of the movement, the barrel ratchet-wheels are also reminiscent of Bugatti T35 wheel rims with their eight iconic spokes. An indicator visible on the back of the watch signals the remaining energy available.

Finishing

Like all the movements developed, fine-tuned and produced by the Manufacture, each part of Calibre CC20A is crafted in accordance with the principles of fine watchmaking. Confirming the prestigious stature of the DualTow, they are bevelled, hand-drawn, mirror-polished and coloured in keeping with the noblest traditions of hand workmanship. Depending on the colours chosen by the customer for his own particular model, the parts are blued, anodised or treated by electroplating.

The DualTow shows a different face on each of these unique watches. In step with current demand and the new luxury codes that give customers the freedom of inventing their own version of an object, Christophe Claret offers them a chance to personalise their own DualTow. Thanks to a “configurator” available on the dedicated www.dualtow.ch website, all prospective clients can play with a large range of colours and express their own version of the model.
